Hello and welcome to Swirling Dreams run Katie. Swirling Dreams is a shop that features original art, postcards, pouches,and many other items that is affordable and easily available for anyone. I believe that art, both original and prints, should be easily afforded by anyone and not just a select few because of my own personal experiences and background.
My own life has been that of growing up in one of Memphis Tennessee's blue collar neighborhoods that slowly deteriorated into a ghetto because of factory closings that gave work to 90% of the area's population.
Art was my only escape but very little of it was accessible to people from my neighborhood unless you sought it our or were exposed to it during high school. Outside of those instances, worrying about survival and making the monthly mortgage were and still are top priority. Art has been made into a thing that is not necessary to survival.
I now work as an art educator going back into these neighborhoods and helping to bring art into these communities of people who may never have any exposure to art or anything handmade as a way to say thank you to everyone who has supported me in my early days. I truly believe that art, and all of the other arts, can change a community and by making it readily available to everyone that art can lose this stigma of being only for a select few.
