I love clothing and accessories. I adore shoes. I delight in putting outfits together and I’m addicted to the confident feeling I have when I step out of the house in a great outfit. And it doesn’t have to be an expensive outfit – just something that looks like I paid attention but didn’t obsess.
I don’t have a huge walk-in closet with room to organize everything just so, but I wanted to look put together and effortlessly stylish. I wanted to save time every morning and prep my outfits for the coming week instead of starting from scratch each day so I started hanging a necklace over a dress or blouse so I wouldn’t forget it. I’d put earrings and bracelets in a clear plastic bag, poke a hole in it and slip it over the hanger hook. Frustrated, and tired of putting my jewelry in sandwich bags, I went to the sewing room and stitched up a little flat piece with pockets and a loop that would slip over the hanger hook and then roll up for travel (an accessory burrito). It was too small and just didn’t accomplish my goal. Then one day it came to me! What if I made a short garment bag that had pockets around the bottom edge? It would protect my garments, keep my ensemble together in one bundle and I could put all of my accessories in the pockets – ring, watch, bracelet, earrings, necklace – even a particular lipstick or eye shadow if I wanted. I found some scraps and made the first Daily Stylist and it worked! I wanted a hundred of them and I thought maybe someone else would too. That’s how The Daily Stylist was born.
Now I can sleep a littler later in the morning and I don’t storm out of the house leaving behind a bed covered in discarded garments because I didn’t plan ahead and the first six things I tried on just didn’t work. I show up at work fully accessorized (have you ever realized your pierced ears were unadorned?), I’m wearing the optimal shoes for the outfit and I’m fully utilizing my wardrobe. Add it up sometime – you’re storing a lot of money in that vault you call a closet. Those clothes aren’t earning interest – the only way to get the value from them is to take them outside and show them the world!
They say you only wear 20% of your wardrobe. The Daily Stylist is a fun way to ensure you utilize all those garments you never wear – or finally admit it’s time to give them away (to a great charity please!).
Take a little time on Sunday afternoon and put your outfits together for the week. Wear that jewelry that never leaves the drawer. Invite a friend over to help you make some fresh combinations. It may even give you the rush of the shopping experience – at no cost!
You keep saying you don’t have anything to wear – but The Daily Stylist says, “Yes, you do!”. So put on a happy face – and a happy outfit.
Love,
Lucy
