This year has gone by at supersonic speed. I'm back in Sequoia National Forest, which is wonderful after being in Southern California for six months. However, the weather and living in the forest presents numerous challenges getting to the post office... a six month delay in our return because our mountain road had washed out with the flooding last March.
I hope you are able to find a Christmas card! The Hannukah menorah card was drawn by my daughter. I specifically asked her for a loose pencil drawing, and I think she delivered!
I just realized that I'm exceptionally partial to cards with animals. What better subject to project Peace on
Earth which we can all use a little bit more of!!

As always, SCOTTIES RULE at the Reimagined Past. Our beloved scottie Maisie died last year, and we now have another named Mollie. She's as crazy as only a scottie can be... those who own this kind of dog know just what I mean...

So, I'm just reopening my shop after 3 months. The weather I mentioned in my last update turned out to be very destructive. Massive amounts of snow and rain. The downside of this "story" is that we've not made it back to our home in Sequoia National Forest. All of the weather washed out the road and we've been in Los Angeles since about February 21st. We won't be able to get back to our home (where ALL of my cardmaking supplies and ALL of my clothes are located!) until the fall.

So I've bought some clothes, ordered new cardstock and am slowly replacing all of the things I use to make my cards, which is not an easy task.

And so, the show must go on! I hope to "hear" from you soon! Nancy

WEDNESDAY MARCH 2, 2023

I just have to send a HUGE thank you to all of my customers!!!!

I live in Sequoia National Forest in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. We've had historic weather events since Christmas which have thrown a giant wrench into trying to maintain my shop in a business-like manner. In January we had historic amounts of rain - mudslides and rock and boulder slides and flooding, cutting us off from driving down the mountain road to the post office!! February was much worse - historic snowfall during which we were snowed in and snowed out of our small community. We are currently in a "snowed out" phase. Haven't been able to go back and won't be able to for a couple of weeks. UGH. All of my cardmaking supplies are up in the mountains so I can't complete new orders and have no access to cards I've already made. Each and every one of the customers who I owe cards to have ALL been totally supportive.

I am so grateful. Nancy

I have re-opened my shop after a grueling month! I am so very grateful for everyone who had faith in me and ordered Christmas cards... my shop consists of just myself, and each card is essentially a custom order - I make them as the orders come in. It all became overwhelming and I had to take a deep breath before I "powered" on. I have been living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California - you have read about our extreme weather which made it impossible some days to drive down to the post office, a 20 minute drive away. The results were torrential rain causing mudslides and rockslides (really boulders) with flooding. The snow brought impassible roads, the power went out for a couple of days... I love creating cards of all sorts and I hated/hate the fact that my geographical location prevented me from fulfilling orders in a timely fashion.

I wish all of you a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!!!

Sunday June 5, 2022 Christmas keeps "happening" every week...don't know why but I'm still selling Christmas cards every week! I'm hoping that customers are revisiting the simple pleasures of writing/sending and receiving greeting cards. Maybe the idea of planning ahead is satisfying. I used to buy greeting cards all year long and had a healthy stash of them to pick through for any occasion. Guess I've always liked cards.

January 29, 2022 my store IS open!! I forgot to give them my social security number and this morning they shut down my shop temporarily. I do hope you'll come back tomorrow. New Valentine Cards will be up tomorrow! Thanks, Nancy

2020...what can I say about it? I closed my shop for 6 months while self-quarantining with my husband at our home in Sequoia National Forest. We were evacuated about 3 weeks ago as a wildfire spread though the community (of 50 houses/cabins) we live in. Five places burned to the ground. Our lucky stars were in place as the house remained unscathed.

I just re-opened the shop about a week to go, and am filling it with some new cards and a host of unsold cards that I've made over the last several years. Downsizing you might say.

I hope you find something you like - if not I can custom make something for you. Give me an occasion, send me an image of your own. I'll do it!

Please stay healthy, especially as the fall and winter months are upon us.

It's been a very busy summer for me! I spent about a month at our wonderful abode in Sequoia National Forest, made cards which I haven't posted yet (shame on me!!), scouring the internet for interesting images... I "like" a number of pages on Facebook, so my interests span from the Vatican Archives to children's book illustrations and from antique images of advertisements (my favorites are from late 1800's with bold design and colors) to Victorian cookbooks.

I've spent a vast number of hours on my family tree, and recently discovered I'm a direct descendant of George Soules who arrived in America in 1620 on the Mayflower...maybe I'll do Thanksgiving cards with old images from antique postcards with my face photoshopped in! Just kidding!!!!

I continue to delight in making my cards, and need to "step on it" for the upcoming holidays. One year a customer sent me about 8 vintage Art Deco Christmas cards she had bought over the years, which I scanned and embellished. Have to admit that was a really fun experience!

Christmas...personalized greeting cards... boxed notecards that come in a kraft gift box with some sort of embellishment - (thinking about cats in advertising, bookplates of famous individuals from Vincent Van Gogh to Winston Churchill, images of USA airmail stamps, fashion illustrations from the 1940's and later...necklaces with vintage initials, animals or whatever strikes my fancy at the moment..magnets...bookmarks...

I have collected a number of antique and vintage initials which i think would be lovely as a 5"x7" print - from animal alphabets which would be fun for kid's rooms, as well as letters from illuminated medieval manuscripts. Prints of cats. Dogs. Vintage ads. Vintage children's books illustrations. Vintage travel posters. Etc, etc.

So, I hope you'll stop by ad check it out! Thanks, Nancy

I found this article on a website called "Verily."
It discusses some of the most important reasons to write someone - not email, no facebook.
Here's the article:

"When's the last time you picked up a pen and wrote someone a letter? If you're like most of us, it's been a while. There are so many reasons to stick to digital missives: the cost of stamps just went up (again), and spell check has ushered in the glorious space age convenience we always knew we deserved. Meanwhile, text, messenger, and email apps are just. Right. There.

But there are moments in life when a Facebook message simply won't cut it. Handwritten notes are a favorite tool of CEOs, presidents, and grandmas everywhere, because they build bridges and nurture relationships like nothing else. Here are three times when you should be breaking out pen and paper—along with some ideas of what you should put on that blank piece of dead tree.

Letters After a Loss

Your friend who had a miscarriage. Your neighbor who lost a parent. Your classmate whose fiancé has ended the relationship. Sad reactions on the Facebook announcement don't even begin to honor the heartbreak of the situation. And yet, it's scary to think you might say the wrong thing. So maybe you comment “I'm so sorry,” and keep scrolling.

This is precisely when a letter is hard to write—and why it means so much to send one. Where we go wrong is when we try to comfort the person who is mourning. This leads to painful verbal dysentery like, “He's in a better place” or “Everything happens for a reason.” Instead, just acknowledge how awful the loss is. It's okay to write, “I know nothing I can say will make this hurt less, but with all my heart I wish I could.” Because it's true.

Don't worry that your thoughtful note will reopen wounds. For many people, the most painful part of a loss is when others forget about it. Taking the time to write to your friend sends the message that you know how important their heartbreak is.

Thank You for the Meeting

If you're a bride-to-be or an expectant mother, handwritten thank-you notes are probably on your mind. But they should also occupy space inside the brain of anyone who has a career, or who would like one.

Sure, a same-day, emailed thank-you from a job seeker to an interviewer is a given. But a handwritten note that arrives a couple days later, in addition to that email, will remind your future employer that you still exist, that you care, and that you possess the rare talent of being able to follow up. Meanwhile, sending your thanks for a networking meeting confirms you're a considerate person worth connecting with.

The key to a successful note? Be specific! Comment on an important detail you learned about the company during the interview. Write about how the conversation with your potential mentor helped you, and reiterate how you can be a resource, too.

Love Notes

In days of yore, mothers told their daughters: don't write love letters! If a break-up happens, the notes could compromise the young lady's “reputation.” In the twenty-first century, a handwritten love letter is so rare that it's heart-stoppingly romantic and appreciated by men and women alike. Don't let your wedding day be the first time you write one. The easiest way to write a love letter is to describe your feelings about a moment in the past—your first date, your first kiss—or your hopes for the future. The only indispensable element in your love note is, of course, sincerity.

The best part about love letters is that they have no equal as a historical document. Fifteen years from now when your children are digging through your dresser drawers, they won't find copies of the texts you and your husband exchanged, but they will really enjoy finding your love letters. This adorable moment can only happen if you take action now!

Handwriting a letter is an opportunity to slow down and connect with others in the moments that matter most. Don't miss your chance. Get a stylish pen, get nice paper, and get ready to write!"

Time flies. I can't believe the Holiday Season has come and gone.
Fast forward to the Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's and Father's Day.

If there is an occasion you would like me to include, please send me a message. Sometimes I feel a tad clueless as to what customers might like.

Talk about personalization...say you have a card that you've bought in a flea market and would like to "update" it...I can clean up the image, brighten it, crop it or make a range of other changes. It's up to you. Want a personalized message inside? Done!

The Christmas Season is upon us! Hard to believe.

No eCards for me...not should they be for you!

Call me sentimental, but I feel pretty special to get a card in the mail - especially at Christmas.

It reminds me that someone is thinking of me during the Holiday Season. Make someone feel the same way too.

My selection of vintage images to "reimagine" are all over the place! Just as I feel the need to make more birthday cards, I find an artist whose cat illustrations swept me away. Then I remember it's almost Mother's Day and Graduation. I can't seem to stay on one path - hence the most eclectic collection of cards.

I have bought hundreds of old greeting cards in every imaginable category...Leap Year? Groundhog Day? If there is something that you would like to see, please drop me a line.

I've also had customers send me old cards and I've "updated" and embellished them as custom cards.

Hope you see something you like.

Vintage greeting cards - reimagined. Vintage greeting cards - whimsically reimagined. Hand colored. Hand sewn. Embossed, embroidered, embellished, glittered and glued.

Many of my treasures come from my mother's scrapbooks from the 1930's. I also collect old postcards and greeting cards from around the world: Flea markets - Les Puces in Paris, the Rastro in Madrid, the Blesi Trh in Prague, The Mercato delle Puci in Florence, Portobello Road in London, the Flohmarkt in Heidelberg and the Rose Bowl in Southern California - have provided many wonderful and captivating cards. The unique amalgam of styles, colors, shapes and sentiments (not to mention Scottish Terriers!) from the past inspired me to create these cards.

Welcome to my shop! I hope you'll enjoy my "reimagined" take on these vintage cards. Each rendering is one of a kind. Please check back often as I will be adding Birthday, Valentine's Day, Easter, Graduation and "just because" cards. Thanks.
