The Wood...
I love working with the environment's natural gifts and creating eco-friendly pieces for you to wear. All of my wood comes from Northwest trees that are either hazard or salvage. This means that the trees have either structural defects causing them to fall, or they are damaged by a natural disturbance such as wildfire or disease. I source all of my wood from a local vendor who has specialized in this work for over 35 years. They air dry the slabs for 2-3 years and then sometimes kiln dry, depending on the wood.
I'm especially drawn to black walnut with its deep brown hue and rich purple swirls. I started using the wood to make furniture for my home, but had a lot of scrap material leftover after completing the projects. That's when I decided to break out my acrylic paints and combine the two. As the pieces of scrap wood got smaller, I realized they would make unique and beautiful pieces of jewelry. Wood jewelry by itself is naturally fabulous, but I also love to paint clean lines and colorful designs giving each piece that edgy vibe.
My Process...
The pattern of the wood grain is where I begin. Using a jeweler's saw to hand cut each piece, I try to create shapes that highlight the best parts of the wood. All of the wood is thoroughly sanded using first an orbital sander, then a file, and finally hand sand paper of varying grits. This makes the wood ultra smooth, and your experience splinter-free. I use professional quality acrylic paint, the goal of which is not to cover up the wood, but to enhance its natural beauty.

Many cultures use walnut for its spiritual and medicinal properties. It teaches clarity and focus, and harnessing your wisdom and intelligence. To some it symbolizes confidence and holds the power of breath.
This popular hardwood has a gorgeous and rich grain pattern. It's commonly used for furniture and cabinetry, but personally I think it makes perfectly unique jewelry.
