The Potter
I am a total nerd when it comes to buildings. While majoring in Architectural Engineering and spending the beginning of my career designing building materials, I have become obsessed with a structure’s details - the curve of a downspout, the delicacy of a window, the geometry of a heating grate. The illustrations on my pottery are inspired by buildings that I have seen while traveling throughout the US, Europe and Asia over the last few years. My latest collection is inspired by a recent trip to Venice, Italy. I love to create pieces that will be used every day - to make something pretty prosaic into a thing of beauty. Most of TRö’s ceramics are food, microwave and dishwasher safe.

The Process
I use a white stoneware clay from Spain, which is either thrown on the potters wheel or rolled into a slab. The designs are hand-drawn with an ink-like underglaze and then glazed in a glossy clear - making the work food, microwave and dishwasher safe. Each piece is individually handcrafted and will have slight variations to pieces in the photographs.

The Patterns
Each pattern is inspired by a photograph or the footprint of a building. The unique details from buildings are a way to capture the personality of a city.

The Space
I have a small pottery studio just outside of Basel, Switzerland. I share the space with three other artists – a photographer, a jewelry designer and a print maker.
