From an early age, I always enjoyed working with my hands -- knitting, needlepoint, quilting, sewing, gardening -- and now making jewelry for over 10 years.
I opened my etsy shop in 2009. In my shop name, WahineJewelrybyKaren, "wahine" is Hawaiian for "woman/women." Prior to that date, I was a buyer and seller on ebay.
I have always been interested in design found in nature, fabric, and interiors. From Topkapi Palace iznik tiles, Provence antique fabrics, and the simplicity of Shaker furniture to stunning gardens, I am intrigued by how color, pattern, and texture come together to create endless design.
Creating jewelry allows me to participate in this process. I spend a lot of time carefully creating each piece. I choose top quality gemstones, pearls, beads, and crystals and combine them, most often with sterling silver and gold, to make graceful, affordable jewelry. The whole process of making jewelry from the inspiration to the finished product gives me great satisfaction and enjoyment.
