After my mother taught me to sew a few years ago, I got the sewing but in a serious way. I was sewing like crazy!! I began an album of my sewing projects on my personal facebook page. I was shocked at how many people were offering to purchase items I'd made. Although it was wonderful to know people enjoyed my work I felt like I was too much of a novice to sell my things.
As I continued sewing (almost every day - I tend to become obsessed with hobbies!) my daughter's wardrobe grew to ridiculous proportions. It became clear that I couldn't keep making her clothes at the rate I was going but I did so love the creative outlet of sewing!
I first began selling things to just a few friends and acquaintances. Soon I was getting more requests. I was busy sewing all the time!
I opened a facebook page in February just to get a feel of how successful I could be at a business. I couldn't believe how many orders I received. I passed housework and cooking duties over to my husband and children and soon I was sewing in a lot of my spare time.
I wanted a name that suited my personality and really liked the idea of something that sounded southern or country since I'm a Southern country girl! <3 I toyed with Sassafras but when I googled it found it to already be a very popular boutique name. One day, I heard the song Wildflower, by the Jane Doe Girls and thought Wildflower had the free spirit, wild, country sound I was seeking. A friend suggested I tack on Child to make it Wildflower Child in the hopes I would branch out and make more boy items (which I have!)
Thus, Wildflower Child was born and nothing has been the same since. I live in a pile of fabrics and thread when I'm not hanging out with my family or teaching first graders.
I hope you enjoy my little shop! <3
