As an artist, I am drawn to concepts, celebrations, ideas, because they hold something in the subconscious for me --memories I have collected along this journey of life which then manifest themselves into my creative ideas.
I’ve lost loved ones in my life, and my love of photographing cemeteries was manifested from grief, remembrance, love, and loneliness. All of these things came together to help me channel a creative release for my grief and to gain a respect for the passing of life. With the development of this passion, I began to take notice in the quiet nature of the cemetery, and how life happens around it. Of course those resting places located in the middle of large cities, are going to be louder, than a country backroad cemetery or graveyard, but even in the most hustle and bustle of a city, the traffic and street noise became white noise. Now, I have to really focus on the traffic sounds to hear them.

I photograph other subjects, and I am branching out in my display of those subjects. I mostly refer to them as “Historical Life Markers.” We all have those, and I have always been the one to stop and read the actual markers scattered across America, so it kind of makes sense in my head. Everything I photograph is personal. Whether it is a cemetery, or a building, or a tree, it is all personal. Those subjects, that scene, even my own image, made me stop what I was doing, pull out my camera, and capture the feeling or emotion of that moment.
