Baby Cricket began toward the end of 2010 as a necessary outlet for my creative energies. I began making soft sole baby shoes after hopelessly searching for cozy, soft, flexible shoes for my little boy so he could feel the ground while learning to walk. Things progressed slowly at first as they often will here on Etsy while one figures out the system. Then I got the notion that my son needed wolf slippers like Max in his favorite book “Where the Wild Things Are.” I made a pair and listed them on a whim. From that point on I am delighted to be barely able to keep up with the demand for monster slippers in all sizes from tiny newborn to big adult feet. I find inspiration in the joy children have for play and their ability to pretend. I want to make things that help everyone find their inner joy and playful side.
Last year we moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Mount Shasta, in Northern CA. We now have an acre for our 6 year old to play on, and a fantastic small community full of amazing people to enjoy. This last summer I took some time off sewing to build a tree house for my boy (well.. that is the story.. it really is for me) It will likely show up in photos as soon as the snow melts.
My days usually are spent happily in that constant juggle between the needs of my family and Baby Cricket. My sweet husband puts up with the fluff that inevitably drifts down the hall after I work with fuzzy monster slipper fabric, and my little boy is constantly “helping” me reorganize my thread drawer amongst other things. I feel so lucky to be able to stay home with him to watch him grow and explore, and am so grateful to the Etsy world for giving me this gift.
