We (Charlie and Jessica Culella) are based in St. Louis, MO and got our start back in 2009, when we designed and produced our first piece of furniture, the Pagoda Modern lounge chair, for a charity event to help fund and support a women’s shelter. The lounge chair was such a success, and made such an impact on the shelter, that we participated again in 2010 with the Concur chair and ottoman. We had so many more ideas, sketching ideas on lunch napkins, we wondered where we’d ever store all these pieces if we made them.

Both working as graphic designers, our creativity just wasn't being completely fulfilled. Working with our hands and producing physical pieces, that we were the driving force behind, had to become a part of our lives. Thus, came (CIVILIZED), our creative outlet for all our furniture and home good ideas.
