I opened up my Etsy shop in June of 2011. One way or the other I have been into photography now for over 25 years. I was introduced to photography early on in my life by my parents. At that time, it was a fantastic mystery spending time with my father in a homemade darkroom, smelling all the chemicals, seeing wet film gleaming in red light and images magically appearing in paper trays.
My true love for photography came with the purchase of my first Nikon SLR in the 80s. These days, I mainly use digital photo gear – plenty of bells and whistles, but the basics are still the same. Composition is still the key, doesn’t matter what format.
I love everything about photography – from the feeling of holding a camera in my hands, to looking through a viewfinder and seeing the world magically transforming into an abstract art. When I don’t have my camera with me, I often look at things as though I would be looking through a lens, making a mental note for the next potential photoshoot.
Spending time taking photos, especially if I am able to dedicate an entire day to the activity, is my way of relaxing and getting away from the daily hustle and bustle of things. Processing images is a special time as well – I almost always do it while enjoying my other pastime, music. Interestingly enough one often influences the other. Often the image dictates what type of music I listen to and vice versa. Naming my photographic works is a unique process – many things go into it, such as: the image mood, my emotional state, the track I am listening to, the book(s) I am reading or have read, conversations with my family, world events, etc. While the name of one image will come instantaneously, the other could take days to develop.
In the end, my goal is to open people’s eyes and minds through aesthetically pleasing art that lends itself to infinite interpretations.
