My Back Story
I want to start by saying that I am entirely self taught. The only lessons I've had were high school art classes, so I had an uphill battle to teach myself to draw BUT I got to learn to do it my way. I have always loved mechanical graphite pencils. They keep that sharp edge no matter what and it lets you get all those fine hairs and detail like no other. So, that's what I use to create my pieces. Those, cap erasers & blending stumps and that's about it. I embarked on my endeavor to be a full time artist buy first starting to sketch for people I knew at the health club I was working at back in 2004. Word grew & I started doing local shows. I loved sketching AND getting paid to do it so much that I hate to admit but my work at the club suffered. So much so that, and I'm going to frank, I got fired. The BEST thing that could have happened to me. I had to make this work. I didn't have any choice. With a new found fire under me and the depressing day after day of working at a soul sucking job lifted I got busy. I continued working local art shows & in the meantime this "internet" thing started being something I could harness & I took advantage of it. The first place I started to sell my services was a Dog inspired site called "Dogster" . Sharing some of my work there got me followers & orders. People who still are with me today! On top of a couple of other sites like that I found (low and behold) Facebook. A lot of time & work later I figured out how to grow an audience there. So much so that that's where almost all my work came from. In 2009 I started on etsy but it has only been within the last few years that the pendulum swung the other way and etsy became where I was getting seen & embraced. It has been a long road & things continue to change & evolve. Even my work, but only for the better. My sketching experience building on itself, allowing me to hone my skills further & further. I look forward to doing this into a ripe old age! I never tire of this & sketching pieces for people of their beloved pets.
