Hi. I’m Kathleen Cavalaro and I want to introduce you to my therapists - the round and bent nose pliers and the wire cutters. Once I learned how to wrap wire with them, my life changed forever. It’s important that I tell you why I put myself in their care. Almost fifteen years ago, I moved to Brooklyn. I did not know a single person there but I did have two children under 2 years old.
I spent my days waiting for one child to finish their nap, and napping in the spaces that overlapped. If any of you know me, you know I don’t do idle very well, and to be frank, I was losing my mind. After taking a journey through the many things I was not good at, I took a jewelry making class during one of my visits home to Portsmouth and instantly fell in love.
I tend to get consumed by whatever project that interests me. So after thousands of dollars spent on my new jewelry making obsession, I was encouraged to either stop spending or to start making money off it. So, obviously I opened up a bead store. It was in Brooklyn, NH. I put a big table in the middle of the room and opened up the seats for anyone who wanted to come in and design jewelry and socialize.
I made my own jewelry too and I had some mild success with it. My work had appeared on Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kerri Russell, Sienna Miller, Katie Holmes, Rachel Ray and others, as well as appearing in publications such as People, Ok Magazine, and Us Weekly. It wasn’t nearly as glamorous as it sounds.
New York was still driving me crazy, so I sold my store to a customer and moved back to NH where I had a few life changing events - a divorce followed by a move to Portsmouth with no job and some gaps in my resume. Unable to find a job, I had not choice but to start up my own marketing company with my now husband, Brian Kelly.
Life became a constant struggle to make ends meet. Traditional health care is not really a viable option. I find myself having to self-diagnose a lot off of the internet. I currently have a tree growing in my lung and Shingles. These conditions are treatable after a quick conversation with my husband, but my mental health treatment requires a bit more help, so allow me to introduce my jewelry line, which you can find in this shop, only made possible with help from my therapists.
Thank you and hope you enjoy reading and shopping!
