=====================
We are UK bead makers making handmade beads using rods of glass. The technique for making these art beads is known as lampwork or flamework and each bead is annealed fully in a digitally controlled kiln for strength and stability. An artisan glass bead takes time to make and each is unique. Our beads are ready to use in any of your projects such as beading, bead weaving, bead embroidery, kumihimo, wire wrapping or any other creative uses you might have or our contemporary glass beads can be fully mounted by us on Sterling Silver with 925 bail, as ready to wear pendants. For as long as stocks last, we include a FREE ribbon cord necklace of approx 18" with your sterling bail pendant mounted bead. This is a complimentary gesture to allow you to give it as a gift or to wear it straight away, especially if you don't have your preferred chain available. The sterling silver fittings we use in the mounting do mean that you can always change from the ribbon to a chain of your choice.

We have introduced the option of 'plated mounting'' to allow you to have a wearable pendant for no additional cost. The 'plated' option consists of silver plated wire and split ring with toning glass beads, this provides the same flexibility as the 'sterling' option allowing you to use different cords or chains.
====================
We photograph our beads as accurately as possible. Monitors vary as does the level of daylight in different parts of the world. Please view all the photos, and if you are in any doubt, please contact us and we can send additional information.
===================
We are members of the Self-Representing Artists Project (SRA), taking pride in the quality and finish of each item we make.

Our handmade glass beads are handcrafted using a variety of CoE 104 glass rods, such as Effetre, Vetrofond, Lauscha, Reichenbach and Kugler, CiM; Reichenbach & Gaffer CoE96; CoE 90 glass, such as Bullseye; and Borosilicate (Northstar, Momka, Glass Alchemy). Materials include dichroic, super lustre Double Helix glasses, silver and copper; techniques include etching (for a beach glass finish), sandblasting, electroforming, gold and silver fusing.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalised orders

We are happy to discuss custom and personalised orders, but regret that requests to repeat previously sold items from our back-catalogue cannot be fulfilled. Each bead is one of a kind and duplication is not possible.

Care instructions

All our art beads are kiln annealed to be as strong and stable as possible, although please remember that they are glass and ought to be be treated with care - if they are dropped, struck or scratched by hard materials, they may be damaged and broken surfaces could cause harm. We sell the beads as decorative items and have no responsibility for any subsequent misuse. Sensible precautions should be taken with young children and the beads should not be used as toys.
Our designs are not decals, they are kiln-fired lustres, sandblasted to create the patterns. As such they should also be treated with care, washed only with lukewarm soapy water if necessary and no abrasive cleaners should be used.

Brexit

To all our dear customers in Europe, Etsy now takes responsibility for collecting VAT on orders under 135 GBP at checkout, so no further charges will be applied by your country at the border. We ship via Etsy shipping labels with electronic IOSS notification for as smooth a delivery as possible.

What is lampwork?

The lampwork technique was famously developed hundreds of years ago by skilled craftspeople in Murano, a small island in the Venice Lagoon, and is often referred to as Venetian or Murano glass. As an art form many new techniques have evolved since then. We love to explore the unique properties of glass as a medium, colour blending, translucency, shape and form, the possibilities are endless. The glass is shaped when molten, in the flame which adds to the uniqueness of each piece.
The bead in the photo is the bead we have made, it is completely unique and cannot be repeated. Colours and reactions vary with flame chemistry, working time and glass batches, so your bead or bead set will be one of a kind.

What is sandblasting?

Sandblasting the surface gives a soft 'beach glass' effect, which, combined with the shiny glass gives a contrast in texture. All sandblasted surfaces are coated with a fingerprint-proof finish, which protects from grease and water, allowing them to keep their looks.

Packaging, Delivery & the Environment

We are committed to using practical and eco-friendly materials wherever possible. Our envelopes, tapes and stickers are entirely paper and can be recycled.We use a minimal amount of bubble wrap (paper alternative for Germany) as it is still the best protection for glass. We use oxygen concentrators to generate our own oxygen for the flame and regulators for fuel efficiency. Any glass waste is minimal and disposed of responsibly. Etsy offsets the carbon emissions from shipping and we walk to the Post Office!!
