ABUTILON aims to pair simple high quality materials with thoughtful design to create singular handbags and leather goods.
We believe in charming, functional shapes and carefully picked materials to create quality and long lasting products.

Our inspiration comes from friends, every day life and needs, craftsmanship and antique finds.
Supporting local industry when possible in sourcing our materials is part of our design process. Our handbags and small leather accessories are made by hand in our Brooklyn studio.

Local material sourcing and production is a meaningful part of our design process and philosophy. We use 100 % cotton canvas that is water and dirt repellent and comes from a traditional textile manufacturer in the USA. Most of our leather is sourced locally from a renowned tannery.

Mélanie Couchouron's love for handcrafting led her to create ABUTILON, experimenting with shape construction, natural and versatile materials like leather and cotton canvas. Born in France, Mélanie studied fashion design at the Studio Berçot in Paris and has called Brooklyn home since 2006.
