Many of my products are made from repurposed wool sweaters, whose tags say: "Dry Clean Only"...or "Hand Wash in Cold Water and Dry Flat."

I ignore such silly warnings.

Instead, I wash and shrink the sweaters in hot water and dry them in a hot dryer so the wool becomes thick and strong. This material becomes the perfect shield for winter's cold, biting winds. After this, I carve up and sew the sweater pieces according to my own time-tested pattern, add a double or triple layer of soft new fleece, attach some cuffs with double-stitching, and suddenly we are ready for winter and gift-giving.
