I started Munieca in 2007. But I have always loved to create, so when I found out about Etsy, a place all dedicated to handmade stuff, I thought “this is what I want and through this I can show my work to the world!”. Munieca was primarily about collages, illustrations and paper crafts. Then I began to create paper jewelry with my illustrations. What Munieca has become now is a place of girlhood mementos and souvenirs.

The word “munieca” means “doll” in Spanish. I thus like to think that Munieca is a place inspired by sweet, cute and nostalgic themes from childhood. Things that I like and inspire me are: animation, anime, oriental culture, movies (Japanese and Chinese), the 18th and 19th century English literature, Dark and gothic novels, toys and dolls, and many many different things. In Munieca you can encounter both the innocence, colorful and romantic cute things, but also, at the meantime, some sadness and darkness from my adulthood. Munieca has a bit of both sides, just like real life.

I create "souvenirs”. I try to make each piece look like a keepsake, a treasure that was hidden and was discovered and that the reason it have, whatever, do tell a story or recall any.
