Handmade things create memories for both the creator and receiver. The first time I saw my mom sew, she was in the midst of a huge project of gifts. Buried in fabric, tired, stressed, and sore from the long hours, she created beautiful patchwork Christmas tree skirts that are still in use today. I was fascinated that she could take sheets of fabric and cut it, twist it, sew it in a way that seemed to create something from nothing. It would be years before I got my chance at a sewing machine, but that memory never left me and the process is still fascinating! Immensely satisfying too:)
I don't have a typical day; being a mom of 2 small kids has a way of spicing things up. I have plenty of ideas, but not always so much time to sketch them out and sew. I do not mass produce anything and each item I make is something I love - I would keep it all if I could! I don't have the attention span to stick with one piece of fabric or pattern for too long, so chances are that I'll only make one - truly unique!
We have things that we need and use every day, but that doesn't mean those things need to be boring. It's so much more fun to carry around something handmade and special. Something no else will have, that has meaning and memory. It brings a bit of extra joy to the day. And that is why I do what I do :)
