I learned how to crochet from my grandmother, taught myself how to knit, gave both up for lost, then picked them back up and spent several years improving my skills. Three years ago, I met my now husband in a play we had both been cast in, A Christmas Carol. He jokingly proposed to me a month later when I brought in Christmas cookies for the cast to eat, and I found out later, actually went on stage in a performance having just put one in his mouth.
When I first met him, he was just finishing training for Ninja Warrior, and proved it to us all by climbing a building. He insisted that in the ever going struggle between ninjas and pirates, ninjas were the greatest. It was around that time that he learned how much I loved pirates, actually having the nickname "Captain Jack" (as a code name for sending notes in school) long before the Pirates of the Caribbean came out.
I don't remember where the idea originally came from, but at some point, I realized how funny it was that a pirate was in love with a ninja. My ninja is always encouraging me in my crafts, though, complimenting me and giving me suggestions. Other people joke by calling me an old grandma for knitting and crocheting all the time. Even though I enjoy these jokes, he lets me know it's something he loves about me, and has taught me to love my skills, as well. I decided that my shop would be named "Pirate Loves Ninja" because of how huge a part of my life that connection was and now is forever.
