I have been a lover and collector of vintage and found objects since I was a teenager...that's a long time....trust me (-: When I was young I was just attracted to old oddball things naturally...they were beautiful to me. But now that I'm older I have a better understanding of why they were so important to me...I value the past and how it has shaped my life. It bothers me that we in present day will sometimes take that relationship with the past for granted and so quickly replace old things with newer things that quite frankly are cheaply made and fleeting...they don't have much long lasting substance to them. And by thoughtlessly replacing them we treat our resources as if there is a never ending supply and disregard how they are obtained. I want to preserve the old things and treat them as if they matter...because they do. This is one of my reasons for becoming a hat-maker...a craft involving very old, traditional techniques and equipment...and why recently most of my creations have been made with recycled and vintage materials...it's my way of conserving precious resources and being mindful of where and how these things were obtained.
I opened Redo Bijoux because I want to share my love for vintage and oddball knick knacks...and I hope to inspire people to reuse, recycle and respect things from the past and to transform these treasures into yet another beautiful thing.
