You may wonder where the name Shanti Designs comes from. And why yoga mat bags? Well, about three years ago I started to work with the mantra Om, shanti, shanti, shanti. This mantra is an invocation of peace. The first shanti invokes greater peace within yourself; the second, peace in your family and friends and with the third, peace on the planet.

It was during this same time that a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after just having given birth to her daughter. It was a time of great joy and sorrow. She is a yoga enthusiast. I wanted to give her a gift that would help her to continue going to yoga through her treatment. I made my first yoga mat bag for her. It was my way to bring a little bit of peace to her in an otherwise chaotic time.

It was with this first bag that I wanted to continue spreading peace throughout the world. Shanti Designs was born. Each bag is made with love from me to you.
