Sam Shoemaker is a potter from Reinholds, PA; located in Lancaster Country, PA. Being surrounded by a very creative family, Sam has been blessed by getting to experience many different forms of arts and craft. Various talents in mediums such as woodworking, drawing, and painting, candle and tile making can be found in his mom, dad, brother, and sister.
His aunt and uncle, Ned & Gwen Foltz of Foltz Pottery, have greatly influenced his work and appreciation for redware pottery and for traditional Pennsylvania folk art techniques, designs, and shapes. He has been fortunate to grow up in the Foltz Pottery shop and get to watch and learn Ned as he throws and decorates pottery with beautiful lines and shapes. He has also been very lucky to learn from his Aunt Gwen the art of putting on the most amazing shows and how to plan the best kind of food to feed your wonderful customers.
Sam’s style reflects the unique look of Foltz Pottery redware, but he continues to challenge himself to develop new colors, shapes, and designs. Check out the image galleries for examples of works. Then check the store for items on sale and the Schedules and Events page to visit us at a show.
