The Japanese puzzle box (Himitsu-bako) is made of only wood, This is a environmentally-friendly products. This is one of traditional crafts of Japan. The origin goes back even to the Edo era (1800s) of Japan. It has been handed down by the very few craftsmen. All the internal gimmicks are made of wood, so the warmth of wood. The simple and gentle movement of the mechanism gives healing and comfort.
The puzzle box outside (Length) size :
Tiny size >> 4 cm / 1.6 inch = Japanese size 1 sun (=Mame)
Small size >> 9 cm / 3.5 inch = Japanese size 3 sun
Medium size >> 12 cm / 4.6 inch = Japanese size 4 sun
Large size >> 15 cm / 5.9 inch = Japanese size 5 sun
Unusual type >> Various shapes and size
* "sun" is Japanese traditional dimension name. one sun is about 3 cm / 1.2 inch.
