In between graduating from college and having my first child, I spent two-and-a-half years teaching 4 and 5 year olds at a Reggio-inspired Child Development Center. I learned a lot of skills there that I felt I could easily take into motherhood. But many other parents that I encountered during my time there expressed the desire to spend more quality time with their kids but didn't know how to fit it into their busy schedules.
It was this need that led me to start creating these small world playscapes. By doing the leg work for them, I am providing parents with opportunities to spent their time playing with their children. My background in Reggio-influenced learning gave me the ability to know how to source items for these imaginative sets and put them together in a way that encourages play-based learning.
Many moms especially feel the pressure from Pinterest to make sure that everything in their child's world is perfect. So instead of striving to find quality activities to do together, they simply accept survival as their parenting technique. The products at Uncommonplace Shop help bridge this gap, giving parents the tools they need to provide their kids with unique play experiences without the stress of putting it all together. Essentially, it gives both the parent and the child the best of both worlds!
