I have long been a Francophile and aspire to be fluent in French. I have had the pleasure of traveling to France many times. I was attracted to a collage book by the artist Anna Corba, loving her French vintage style. I have since had the pleasure of taking her art seminars in France over the past two years. Admittedly, her artistic style is an influence on my creations.
The expression of my art comes from a love of times past. I try to use vintage materials where possible and to impart a vintage patina to the finished piece through encaustic wax. I love to use vintage French book pages, vintage sheet music and passementerie in my collages. On my sojourns I bring back vintage books, letters and postcrds that you will find woven into my creations.
The hand-bound blank journals are the creation of my husband Joseph. While living in MN we belonged to the MN Center for Book Arts, where we have taken classes in book binding, paper making and marbling paper. My husband hand finishes the wood, hand tears paper and hand stitches in the tradition of days of yore.
