As a walking caricature of the angst-ridden teenager in the 90's I inadvertendly decided that the most meaningful thing in life was to be inspired by art and to create art. I spent those years painting and decorating things for my bedroom, stringing white Christmas lights along my walls, making scrapbooks and collages, decoupaging anything I could find, and eventually sewing.
I begged my mom for a sewing machine when I was 14 in order to make my own curtains. My mom's sewing skills don't exceed a straight stitch, so I discovered Craftster.org which frankly was where I learned all the basics and found many projects to practice on. I began re-sizing my clothes so they fit better and eventually tried my hand at creating clothes from scratch. It took what seemed like much more practice than any "normal" person would require, but eventually I got it down.
After moving to CA when I was 20 and feeling terribly out of sorts by the change, I discovered this whole new exciting world of people who were selling their goods online. I found Etsy and gave it a shot.
I was nervous but received tons of praise by girls who loved that I offered plus-sizes in designs they would never find in a department store. I may have not been making much money through sales, but the encouragement was enough to keep me inspired! There's not much I love more in life than being in my room with my music blasting, a cup of coffee nearby and my sewing machine stitching away. <3
