Forged Steel Ivy Tendril Pendant on a knotted silk cord

Description

Most people think of horseshoes or big railings when they think of wrought iron. They don't think of delicate curling tendrils the size of jewelry.

I used very small steel bar and forged it red hot, just as I would with one of my larger pieces. I carefully tapered, curled, and twined the steel into a gorgeous little vine tendril pendant. I burnished and waxed it to a pewter-ish black and gray gleam.

The pendant measures 3 inches long by 3/4 inches wide or 7.5cm x 2.6cm wide at its maximum dimensions. It hangs from a knotted silk pongee cord.

Copper or bronze chains with my own handcrafted S clasps are available for an additional $15.00. Please contact me if you would like one.

Please keep your steel pendant dry. If it does get wet, simply dry it and re-oil it with a household oil, or with tung oil from the hardware store.

Steel is a very "green" material. Even when you buy new steel, it has likely been made from recycled steel, perhaps recycled many times over. For good info on steel recycling, see http://www.recycle-steel.org/buyrecycled.html
