Sterling Silver and Enamel Mini Cattleya Orchid
Description
In the early nineteenth century, Europe was struck with orchid mania after a few of the rare plants were accidentally packed in a shipping crate from Brazil. For most orchid collectors at the time, money was no object and the imported blooms were housed in greenhouses that were heated year-round by coal furnaces. The “orchid hunter” in the early 1800’s braved dangerous jungles, poisonous snakes, wild animals, hostile tribesmen and floods to procure the flowers. These "Indiana Jones"s of the botany world risked their lives trying to satiate the desire to own these beautiful plants. This boutonnière-style orchid pin was fabricated to match a miniature cattleya bloom. The crimson flower is streaked with canary yellow veins and is a beautiful, classy addition to almost any ensemble.
Each of my hand-forged blooms is created with an eye for detail, so that the finished piece exactly matches the variety of orchid used as a model. Every petal and stem is made of sterling silver then layered with vibrant enamel. This lovely work of art is a perennial bloomer, and is perfect for orchid-lovers, groomsmen, bridesmaids, or friends with empty jacket lapels!
Each hand-made flower is truly unique—just like these exquisite individual flowers they were modeled after. If you have a favorite variety or hybrid that you would like fabricated, please convo me. This is a great gift for orchid aficionados.
