I really love grunge. And decay. I love poking around tumble-down buildings and abandoned farmhouses with my camera in hand. In fact, your miniature is intended to evoke the look of wrecked, wretched houses that have succumbed to time and to the elements, that sit empty-eyed in their overgrown lots. The windows and doors may be missing, the walls stained and crumbling, the angles distorted – but houses like this remain beautiful in my eyes, and inspired me to create this sculpture.

Each tiny (see nickel for scale) homage to rural ruin and urban decay is crafted out of paper, cardboard and acrylic modeling paste. I apply layer after layer of paint, carefully building up a patina of age. Some have cracked and broken windows made of sheets of mica; others have no windows at all.
