Under The Sea Pendant

This lovely pendant is a full of swirls and bits of gold dichroic glass shining through the ripples of turquoise. It reminded me of the ocean and all its beauty. The glass was melted in the kiln at a high temperature. After cooling, it was shaped and returned to the kiln for fire polishing. Two gold decals were added and it was fired in the kiln for a third time. The decals are now a permanent part of the pendant. My photographs do not capture the true beauty of this pendant nor the depth that is reflected in it. The pendant measures appx. 2" x 1 1/8" including the 18K gold plated bail.

For those of you not familiar with "pot melt" - it is a term used to describe a technique where pieces of glass are placed in a container or pot with a hole in the bottom. The pot is then elevated above a tray or container. As the kiln heats up, the glass begins to melt and flow through the hole in the bottom of the pot and onto the tray below. The resulting design of the glass is determined by the melting glass itself. It is always a surprise to open the kiln and see what awaits.
