Long Green Silk Kumihimo Tassled Necklace

I made this elegant kumihimo braided necklace with dozens of strands of green silk thread custom dyed for me in two shades by Queen Creek Supply http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7230649. It's approx. 40 inches long plus 1-1/2" tassels on each end, round with a 2mm diameter. There's no hardware, just tie a casual knot at whatever length works for you. Very nice on its own, it also works with a pendant or slide.

Working with silk thread is a bit of a challenge, but the finished silk piece feels absolutely luxurious! A necklace this thin is slow-going, I can braid only a few inches per hour.

Kumihimo is a centuries-old tradition, dating back to the days of the Samurai who used kumihimo braids to lace up their armor, wrap sword handles to create a secure grip, and to hang a sword on their belts. I love being able to offer my own version of this craft to you! item 128K.
