Spring Tree Quilt Art

Description

This piece of quilt art is the third in my tree series, exploring the different colour options afforded by the change of season. It measures 19.5 x 22.5in and has a hanging sleeve attached, ready for you to hang. It is squared and lays/hangs flat.

The top and backing are made from top quality quilters' cottons, and I've used Matilda's Own wool/cotton batting. The piecing, applique and quilting are done with a combination of 100% cotton, embroidery threads and clear monofilament. The applique is fused and carefully stitched with machine blanket stitch in matching/clear thread, and I have quilted closely around all the applique in matching threads to further define the shapes.

The background is heavily quilted in matching thread. It represents swirling snow, and I've called the style Emming; my personalised version of McTavishing. Depending on the lighting, the quilting can be a major feature, or be almost unnoticeable. Every single one of the nearly 150 thread-ends from the applique and quilting have been hand-tied and buried in the quilting for neatness and durability. The binding is continuous with neatly mitred corners and invisibly hand-stitched down at the back.

I take great pride in my work, all the way through from the initial design to the finishing touches. Being an art quilt, I don't recommend you put this through the wash, but spot cleaning is quite safe with a gentle detergent if required. Of course, testing on the back first is always a good idea. Dry the quilt flat in the shade. Keep your quilt art out of direct sunlight to retain the vivid colours.

The quilt comes from a completely smoke-free environment and has been kept away from pets.
