Agatha - A Knitted Shawl Pattern

Description

Agatha is a lacy shawl that can be knitted in DK or worsted weight yarn, or sport weight yarn for a scarf. This is a charted pattern, and makes a lovely and easy to wear more-than-triangular shawl.

The sample shawl was made from three skeins of ShiBui Knits Merino Kid, a DK weight merino and kid mohair blend (not brushed), at 218 yards per skein (roughly 660 yards total). The patterned body of the shawl took two skeins, while the third skein made the border. You can substitute any sport, DK or worsted weight yarn.

This pattern is for intermediate knitters. Skills required include increasing and decreasing, yarn overs, backwards loop cast on, bind off, and blocking.

My finished shawl was 24" deep from top edge to bottom point, and 50" wide. These measurements may seem small if you're used to standard triangular shawls, but Agatha's deeply curved shape belies the small dimensions, and is easy to wear.

Shown on a model (thanks Janet!) in one photograph, you can see how it looks on a tall slender wearer (Janet is 5'10"). It looks great on me too, and I'm shorter and, umm, rounder. Lots rounder. ;-)
