Follow your heart, follow your passion !
I was born and raised in Mexico City. I grew up in a country surrounded by colors, great food, artisans, art, coffee, drinks,, but also, an extensive variety of material coming from mother earth, minerals like silver, gold, leather, textiles, fabrics, wood, clay, …endless. In addition to this, I grew up by the influence of a family of artists in different ways: my dad a piano teacher, my grant aunt a baker, my, mom a teacher. I always loved to be surrounded by art, music and pastries. In fact, I hold a pastry certificate from a Bakery in the Bay Area in California. I used to decorate cookies, fondant cakes. I always liked to work with my hands and put my imagination to fly.
I started importing jewelry from Mexico, and selling at the farmers markets but I also I designed bracelets and pendants, which I sold them on etsy, but before, I have already educated myself on how to self on line by e bay. I did not have idea, so I bought e-bay for dummies book, and learned the ropes. In 2008, I moved back to Mexico to run a coffee business with my brother. I left my life in California with the hope of becoming successfull in the coffee business. Unfortunately, things did not work out as we expected. The coffee shop was located in the Port of Veracruz Mexico. Veracruz is well known for the hurricanes that frequently affect the port and the government's links with organized crime. At that time, a hurricane destroyed a large part of the coffee shop and almost at the same time, a little before the hurricane passed, the organized crime had already threatened us with the monthly fee so that we could continue operating. Due to these circumstances and fear, we decided to close the coffee shop. My heart was broken. I lost everything! . One day, I day woke up with zero money! Thanks God I have became american citizen before I moved back to Mexico. I decided to move back to california and started from scratch again. My first job was selling underwear in a well know department store. It was very hard to make a living doing something that you don't enjoy.. So them, I decided to re open my etsy shop in 2012 and began from scrath again. My etsy shop, represents a part of me, of my Mexican roots, of which I feel very proud. Mexico is a country of wonderful people, delicious food and great cultural wealth.
I work with artisans and rural communities who practice fair trade. I do not make the entire product complete, we are a team that collaborates together with ideas and designs. They make and design their own products and I also design my own products. It is a mixture of both .. It is a team collaboration. We hope that our products bring joy and peace to your home and office! Sincerely, The Etnochik Team, Veronica Sanchez
