Each unique piece is extremely challenging as I create all my ceramics virtually one handed!
Here in my Etsy shop you will find everything, from nature inspired sculptural ceramics to functional ceramics, every piece of ceramic is handmade by me and always will be.
I set up my business after graduating with a 2:1 BA Hons in Design Crafts, specialising in ceramics at De Montfort University, Leicester in 2013.
I found my love for ceramics while studying the Art Foundation course at De Montfort University (Leicester, England); we had inductions into craft workshops, ceramics included. I really enjoyed working with clay, the making was so much fun, so many different options to explore and experiment with.
The most exciting moment for me was collecting my piece from the kiln, not knowing what it was going to turn out like; the magical moment when you see the finished piece in all its glory, that’s what sold it to me in an instant.
...although I have always been addicted to everything art & crafts since I was a little girl; it’s always been my passion!
2017 has been a fantastic year as I was chosen as a finalist for the 'Stelios Awards for Disabled Entrepreneurs in the UK 2017'! Check out my blog posts for a look into all the exciting events and wonderful opportunities that came my way! (October-December 2017 posts) www.katherinefortnumceramics.com/blog
