Transformation Of Traditional Marbling/Ebru Art With Philosopy Into Wearable Modern Art
While I have been doing marbling / EBRU art, which has a unique philosophy for years, now I wanted to bring my products together with art lovers far away. Each scarf is one of a kind, uniquely designed and handmade with love.
There is a unique philosophy behind Ebru. There are no boundries like age, gender, ethnicity during teaching and producing this very old art. Ebru marbling is like meditation. While marbling, you are completely in the moment.
The final marbling/ebru product is a combination of imagination, technique, skill, emotions of the artist at the painting moment and it can never be replicated or repeated. The characteristic of the art of marbling/ebru is that the result is never predictable.
Marbling, known as EBRU, is a hand painting technique that dates back to the 1200s. Ebru is on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It’s the traditional Turkish art of creating colourful patterns by sprinkling and brushing colours by special hand tools onto a thickened water bath. After that the patterns are transferred to first-quality pure silk treated with alum. Then the scarf is finished after rinsing, drying, ironing and edging (hand-sewing) processes. The colours are not washed off and won’t fade. It takes nearly one week to complete one scarf.
Marbled pure silk scarf can be ironed at the lowest temperature (silk mode) on the reverse and washed by hand in cold water with shampoo or hand soap.
