Treat the little people, big kids and anyone who loves their walls to something wonderful to decorate it!
Hi, I’m Sam.
Mummy of two adorable (at times) little girls and one very adorable (all the time) sausage dog, Perry. I’m the creator of “Why Hello Wall”, a little handmade online shop run by me, made by me, packaged by me and loved every inch by me too... Creating this shop has been my dream for so long so to see it finally come to life makes my heart so full
What is Why Hello Wall?
It’s my shop and it is full to the brim with wire words and shapes, the perfect accompaniment to any wall, hook, shelf or lonely space in the house that needs a little pick me up. All of these delicate signs are lovingly handmade to order so you know thought has gone into each and every one. Each creation is hand forged then wrapped in gorgeous 100% recycled cotton cord.
My product range varies from signature words that I have designed, an option to have a personalised word of your choice made or there is a wonderful choice of “shapes” perfect for the small ones in your life, rainbow clouds, eyelashes, bows, numbers, alphabet and many more still to come.
But why, Why Hello Wall?
My choice of shop was an easy one. I have spent my whole career up till now on a computer screen and I wanted something that took me away from that, to let me work with lovely materials and use my hands to create something more than what you can on a computer. With the arrival of my beautiful girls I very much jumped on the bandwagon of buying all things beautiful for their rooms, decorating their shelves, buying gorgeous toys, I just fell in love with it all, the glorious Instagram pages of gorgeous rooms with handmade wall hangings, unusual toys, wonderful wares etc. I wanted to join that gang. This is where the idea came for my shop. I often looked at these lovely things and thought I want that, but I think I can make it myself, so I did... and so “Why Hello Wall” was born.
Is Why Hello Wall eco friendly?
I have consciously endeavoured to make my shop sustainable with 100% recyclable packaging and the use of recycled cotton cords on the products. I truly believe its important we all do our bit to help keep this earth beautiful for our Children and our children’s children to come.
A little bit about me.
I have loved anything creative from my very earliest memories. Mum and Dad always say they knew I would be a “Arty” career girl from the moment, at the age of two, I used paint to create an, in their words, masterpiece. To anyone else’s eyes it looked like a mess, but to my parents it was frame worthy and still to this day has been saved to show any lucky passer-by. From that tender age of two so many of my memories are of spending time doing crafts, from summer holidays with my nan learning to knit (with my less eager brother) to taking those little cereal boxes from Kelloggs (which were a special treat) and making anything from robots to pop up cards with them. From the age of, I think 5, I developed a slight addiction/fascination/love with stationary shops and their contents, which alas, continues to this day. So its fair to say I was always destined to do something creative... and that I did!
After studying Multimedia design at University in Leicester, one of my wonderful teachers put me in touch with his close friend that worked within the greetings card industry. I had an interview, got the job and stayed within this industry, drawing, designing, collaborating, living my childhood dream for the next 14 years. Then my baby Girl arrived, Mya. My world. Things changed at this point as all new mums know, your focus in life switches. So I went part time to juggle both parts of my life until my second Bundle of joy came into the world three years later, Poppie. She completed our little family. But then the career/family life juggle became a little harder to achieve, so I took the hard decision, but the right one, to leave my job. I had this hope of starting something for myself, something I love as well as following the dream of achieving that work life balance, of work fitting around my life and not the other way around.
So here I am, playing out that dream and it seems (touch wood!) to be working. I now work from home and split my working days between creating wonderful hand made signs, freelance card design and my family.
To those Mummy’s out there, doing the juggle, I’m hoping to join you in flying the flag to say it can be done, it is possible, now lets live it and make it work for US and our families!
