My Opal Story.
I started cutting Opal for a living 50 years ago. It has been my passion & I've been involved in all area's of the trade. I started mining at White Cliffs & the first stones I cut were found there. I left my "normal" job at 18 years of age & set up the fledgling enterprise in my dads garage here in Melbourne. Things developed fast & within a couple of years we had a dozen full time cutters working with us supplying loose stones to jewellery manufacturers & wholesalers worldwide. Then came retail outlets & producing our own designs to set the stones in. After about 30 hectic years & the global financial down turn, I decided to downsize & go fishing more. We set up a couple of online ventures & I was dragged yelling & screaming into the world of computers & digital camera's & technology ect. That is where things are now & I still get as excited when I start work on a new parcel of rough Opal as I did all those years ago. I have listed a few examples of what we do on Etsy, hope you folks can find something you like. Gotta go, the tide changes in about an hour & a half. Got to hook up the boat & grab the dog.
