**How everything started...**
My name is Frank. I was born in Granada, and, like many others of my generation, when I finished university, I left Spain in search of opportunities. In San Francisco, I met my wife, Ziwen, a painting lover with great artistic talent. I was always good with crafts, I liked painting, and I wanted to learn. However, my limitations with the brushes and, above all, with the blank canvas made me give up; artistic painting was not for me, and the smudged canvas ended up in the bin.
Later we moved to Ireland, where I worked for several multinationals. I learned a lot in those years and had a good salary, but the work was more stressful, and my life became pure routine and unmotivated: I worked to pay bills. That's when paint by numbers came my way. The method was straightforward: match the colors with the numbers on the canvas until the painting came to life. I still had the desire to paint "something" and be able to feel proud of it, so I bought the kit - worst-case scenario, I'd lost a few bucks.
After several weeks of waiting, I finally received a package that seemed to have gone through several wars. I opened the contents and came to a canvas, a set of acrylic paints, and brushes. Nothing more. I usually see the glass half full and, despite the sad unboxing, I decided to give it a try.
I put on some music, began to paint following the process, and when I realized it, three hours had passed. Not only had I entirely focused on the act of painting and enjoying myself, but I had completely disconnected from all the daily concerns. It was a great feeling. I didn't even look at my cell phone.
I started spending time with the canvas every day. It was my time and my space. And the more I painted, the more excited I got because the painting was coming to life and looked great! There I discovered the great potential of painting by numbers for adults.
Every human being is creative by nature and needs to develop that creativity. In a digitalized society like ours, a manual activity other than refreshing Facebook or Instagram is rare. Creating a painting without previous experience, which helps you control stress and minimal investment, was excellent.
I was hooked on the activity, literally. There were times when I painted a part of the picture and my wife the rest. A fantastic couple activity whose result was a work of art in which both of us had invested time and love. Other times I changed the order of the colors or even added freehand details. Why not? If it sounds fun, go ahead!
But not everything was pretty. I was also let down by the many shortcomings of the existing kits on the market. Regardless of the company, with a rare exception, they were Aliexpress products with common characteristics: low-quality canvases that arrived wrinkled, paintings whose colors did not correspond to the image, shabby packaging with spilled paints that stained the canvas, shipping times problems, impossible claims, etc., etc. A lottery. Is there no one who makes a decent product?
**Canvas by Numbers - Painting by Numbers Done Right.**
I was so involved in the subject that I mentally recreated over and over again the optimal product I would love to buy, designing every detail to the millimeter. I was tempted by the idea of turning paint by numbers into more than just a hobby.
With my wife's help, we connected with manufacturers and learned about paint by number kits for adults. Image processing, type of canvas (cotton, linen, mixed, its weight and density), print quality, the saturation of pigments in paints, size of brushes, choice of suitable images, licenses, etc. We dedicated more than a year and our savings to configure the product we wanted to offer...
And we opened our first online store for the US market (the product was already known among the public, and therefore less investment was required) that began to receive visits from minute zero. From there, word of mouth, product quality, and our customer care did the rest.
The family got involved in the business, and we currently sell to more than 45 countries. Today, with our stores for the US and EU market, we are very proud to say that we are one of the top brands in the industry in our sector.
