Coffee drinking mummy who sews as a passion and business
My name is Katrina and my history is all about stitches and I started Into Stitches pattern company to help mummies like me make beautiful clothes for their young children which will impress your family and friends and upskill your ability in sewing.
My Stitches History:
I learnt to sew at a young age by my mum who taught myself and my cousin Sarah to sew. We made skirt similar to the Lily Tier Skirt. I remember the feeling of being proud of sewing my first project and other than being a mum to two fabulous children, sewing accomplishments are my most proudest moments.
These include:
Young Designers awards: 2004- third in Wearable Arts 2005: Finalist in Menswear Christchurch, New Zealand
Collaboration Artwork of Paper dress exhibited at Dowse Gallery, Lower Hutt, New Zealand 2008
Nano Gold Awards: Top 5 2010, Wellington, New Zealand
Final Collection at Massey University Design School 2010 (Bachelor of Art and Design majoring in Fashion), Wellington New Zealand
And of course, starting my own pattern company. Into Stitches
All these garments were designed, pattern made and sewn by me and since moving to Melbourne in 2006 I have taught sewing classes and made clothes and alterations for clients.
So why children's wear?
Especially as a beginner sewer, children’s wear doesn’t take as much as an investment in fabrics as most projects can be done between 0.5m-1m as making for myself I usually need 2.2m- 4m. (I have only made one dress that took 4m to make Carys a dress.) Secondly my children and I presume others enjoy wearing items their mummy makes and the pure joy on their faces is priceless.
