My intention is to create pieces that reach out to people in a personal way, providing them comfort on a rainy evening, or the memory of a poignant moment. This can partly occur through its function. I enjoy making bowls, cups, vases; the things of everyday use; the pieces that people can relate to most often; the pieces that people can befriend.

Inspired by Minoan Palaceware because of its history and its feeling of celebration, I love making a social occasion feel more special. I experience a similar festive feeling when using English China cups. I enjoy combining historic influences from different eras and cultures.

Being Canadian, I am submerged in a culture of layers: layers of clothing, ready for any weather change; geological layers of earth and rock formation; layers of our many current cultures; and layers of history. This has provided me many rich influences from which to draw, from that of Native Canadian, to Iranian, to Chinese and Minoan, especially in their actual pottery formation, but also in surface handling. I may show this layering effect by fitting separate forms together to display as one piece, or by layering surface treatments that are sometimes blurred, as if through time and weather.
