My collection
I began accompanying my mother to estate sales when I was a teenager. She liked the thrill of the hunt, but the competition to find and snag that special item was anxiety inducing for me. What kept bringing me back was my fascination with objects from an earlier time and how their method of production differed from or led the way for the modern wares on the store shelves. Their materiality and manufacture seemed novel as if the innovation of design itself was visible.
When I started college, I didn't have as much free time to tag along with my mom to estate sales, but I still had a real need to view and purchase these things. A local trend setter that also grew up going to estate sales opened a vintage shop around this time. Her vintage items charmed me so much that I made a weekly visit to her store, always spending at least an hour looking the shop over from bottom to top. Some of my favorite pieces to purchase were necklaces made from ceramic beads or jewelry made from lucite and/or semi-precious metal. She was so patient with me as I tried on a dozen items from the display case.
I still go to sales with the same anxiety and can hardly speak to others 10 minutes before the doors open, but it's all to see those objects. Some of which I share with you all here. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have a question about a piece. I'd love to share more photos in stylings so long as you're not too heart broken if the accompanying items have already sold.
