Creo joyas tradicionales al estilo Niʻihau con auténticas conchas marinas hawaianas —Kahelelani, Sunrise, Momi y Laiki—, todas recolectadas a mano en las islas de Niʻihau y Kauaʻi. Soy muy exigente con las conchas que utilizo. Cada una se clasifica individualmente y me aseguro de evitar las que estén agrietadas o dañadas. Con los años, he visto lo fácil que las conchas de baja calidad pueden afectar una pieza, llegando incluso a desprenderse o a requerir reparaciones posteriores. He ayudado a reparar muchas de estas piezas y siempre quiero ayudar a mis clientes a evitar esa experiencia desde el principio.
Al mismo tiempo, entiendo que cada concha tiene su lugar. Algunas simplemente se apartan, permitiendo que otras aprendan, practiquen y desarrollen su propia conexión con la joyería de conchas de Niʻihau.
Este trabajo es muy personal para mí.
Soy yo quien diseña, crea, fotografía y prepara cada pieza. Cada collar, cada par de pendientes, cada hilo está hecho a mano, concha a concha. No copio otros diseños. Dedico muchas horas a ajustar, combinar y perfeccionar cada pieza hasta que se siente equilibrada y completa.
Además, fotografío personalmente cada artículo, modelo mis propias joyas y envuelvo cuidadosamente cada pedido antes de enviarlo. Cuando recibas tu joya, serás la segunda persona en tocarla.
Lo que más me importa es realizar este trabajo con cuidado y respeto.

My name is Janjira, and I want to thank you for visiting my Etsy shop.
I create traditional Niʻihau-style jewelry using authentic Hawaiian seashells — Kahelelani, Sunrise, Momi, and Laiki — all hand-collected from the islands of Niʻihau and Kauaʻi. I only buy shells directly from local people. We support each other, and I feel incredibly blessed to have access to these rare treasures, often called “the gems of the ocean.”
After many years living on Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi, and working with these tiny shells, I’ve come to see them in a very special way. They are often described as rare and unique—sometimes even said to be the only shells in the world that can be insured. To me, they feel like the gems of the Hawaiian Sea.
ShellsHawaii began while I was living on the island of Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi, where I spent many years close to the ocean, learning to appreciate these shells not just for their beauty, but for the patience, care, and respect they require. Today, ShellsHawaii is based in Seattle, Washington, but my connection to Hawaiʻi remains at the heart of everything I create.
I continue to work with trusted collectors from Kauaʻi and Niʻihau, carefully sourcing authentic shells that have been naturally shaped and polished by the ocean. Every shell I receive is sorted by hand, examined closely, and selected for quality before it becomes part of a piece of jewelry or is offered as shell supply.
I am very particular about the shells I use. Each one is individually graded, and I take great care to avoid shells that are cracked or damaged. Over the years, I’ve seen how easily lower-quality shells can affect a piece—sometimes falling out or needing repair later on. I’ve helped repair many of these pieces, and I always want to help my customers avoid that experience from the beginning.
At the same time, I understand that every shell has its place. Some are simply set aside, allowing others to learn, practice, and grow their own connection to Niʻihau shell jewelry.
This work is very personal to me.
I am the one who designs, creates, photographs, and prepares each piece. Every necklace, every pair of earrings, every strand is made by hand, one shell at a time. I do not copy other designs. I spend many hours adjusting, matching, and refining each piece until it feels balanced and complete.
I also personally photograph every item, model my own jewelry, and carefully wrap each order before it leaves my hands. When your jewelry arrives, you are only the second person to ever touch that piece.
What matters most to me is doing this work with care and respect.
From the beginning, I made a promise to myself—to honor the art of Niʻihau shell jewelry, to appreciate the shells that have left the Hawaiian Sea, and to create each piece the right way. I focus on quality work, staying honest to the art, to the shells, and to the people who support this tradition.
When someone chooses a piece from me, whether it is jewelry or shell supply, I want them to receive something they can truly cherish.
My goal is simple.
To create heirloom-quality Niʻihau shell jewelry that you can wear, enjoy, and one day pass on to someone you love.
