Chi è Solmode?
Sono un designer, creatore, sognatore, artista, maker, curioso e proprietario di Solmode. Credo nel fatto a mano con amore e nel design lento. Amo il riciclaggio, la sostenibilità, la piccola scala e la purezza.
La mia storia:
I semi sono stati seminati molti anni fa. Quando ero una ragazzina, mia nonna mi ha stimolato all'artigianato. Dopo questo ho studiato in una scuola di fashiontrade per ottenere competenze più tecniche. Per non parlare delle innumerevoli ore che potresti trovarmi in numerosi atelier e luoghi di lavoro di artisti e artigiani amici. Tutto ciò mi ha imparato l'arte dell'artigianato e mi ha dato il coraggio di seguire la mia passione.
Nato a Nimega nel 1978, sono stato guidato nel sud dei Paesi Bassi dall'amore. Dopo che l'amore è finito, sono rimasto comunque. Ho vissuto, lavorato e organizzato per 15 anni in due diverse zone franche culturali. Luoghi in cui ho imparato a conoscere una vita più sostenibile.
In quel periodo ho pensato a come avrei potuto giustificare quello che stavo facendo. Ho realizzato principalmente costumi in pvc. Ispirato da un nuovo modo di vivere e di pensare, ho deciso di lasciare il mio lavoro nel 2007 e iniziare con Solmode. Da quel giorno lavoro sodo per il mio grande sogno del mio marchio di moda sostenibile.
Come i tessuti con cui lavoro, anche il mio modo di lavorare è molto organico. Di solito inizio con il tessuto e cerco di vedere quale design si adatterebbe. Lavorare con il riciclaggio e i tessuti vintage, ti porta a forme, approcci ed elaborazioni completamente nuovi. In questo modo vengono alla luce pezzi unici e piccole serie. Ad esempio riutilizzo vecchie cravatte e le trasformo in stravaganti impacchi e abiti per le spalle. Progettare moda è una ricerca artistica. Cerco sempre di catturare l'emozione nei miei disegni e cerco di creare un'esperienza sensuale.
Bilanciando tra l'essere in affari pur rimanendo fedele ai miei ideali, sto attualmente progettando una nuova serie di abbigliamento. Creazioni personalizzabili permettendo al cliente di scegliere tra diverse maniche, scolli, lunghezza e colore. Il tutto realizzato con tessuti organici.
Lavoro anche su incarico. È sempre straordinario fare qualcosa di speciale nel mio stile per qualcuno.
Ho un grande atelier all'Het Werkgebouw di Maastricht. Questo è un collettivo di artigiani. Il carattere sostenibile di avere un edificio comune e creare una piattaforma per l'artigianato locale mi attrae. Insieme si può ottenere di più che essere soli su un'isola.
Oltre ai luoghi di lavoro abbiamo un negozio che è gestito da noi a turno. I visitatori possono venire lì ogni fine settimana.

Who is Solmode?
I'm a designer, creator, dreamer, artist, maker, curious and owner of Solmode. I believe in handmade with love and in slow design. I love recycling, sustainability, small scale and purity.
My story:
The seeds were sown many years ago. When I was a young girl , my grandmother stimulated me to crafts. After this I studied at a fashiontrade school to obtain more technical skills. Not to mention the countless hours you could find me in numerous ateliers, and workplaces of befriended artists and craftsmen. All that learned me the art of craftsmanship and gave me the guts to follow my passion.
Born in Nijmegen in 1978, I was driven to the south of The Netherlands by love. After the love ended, I stayed nonetheless. I lived, worked and organized for 15 years in two different cultural free-zones. Places where I learned about a more sustainable living.
In this time I thought about how I could justify what I was doing. I mainly made costumes out of pvc. Inspired by a new way of living and thinking I decided to quit my job in 2007 and start with Solmode. Since that day I work hard for my big dream of my sustainable fashion label.
Like the fabrics I work with, my way of working is also very organic. I usually start with the fabric and try to see which design would fit. Working with recycling and vintage fabrics, brings you to entirely new forms, approaches and elaboration. In this way one-offs and small series come to light. For example I reuse old ties and make them into quirky shoulder wraps and dresses. Designing fashion is an artistic search. I always try to capture emotion in my designs and try to create a sensual experience.
By balancing between being in business while remaining true to my ideals I'm currently designing a new series of clothing. Creations that can be customized by allowing the customer to choose from different sleeves, neck lines, length and color. All made from organic fabrics.
I also work on assignment. It's always extra-ordinary to make something special in my style for someone.
I have a great atelier at Het Werkgebouw in Maastricht. This is a collective of craftsmen. The sustainable character of having a common building and creating a platform for local craftsmanship attracts me. Together you can achieve more than being alone on an island.
Besides the workplaces we have a shop that is run by us in turns. Visitors can come there every weekend.
