Leggings for boys are most often made from spandex in a blend of either nylon or polyester, although you may also find leggings made from cotton or wool. Spandex gives the leggings a lot of stretch, so your child has unrestricted movement. Nylon and polyester are manufactured fibers that feel silky and smooth and have excellent breathable properties. Cotton and wool are better suited for casual wear or slightly colder temperatures as they offer good insulation and can retain heat.
Synthetic materials such as polyester and nylon will wick away sweat to keep your boy cool during activities and are best for hot weather or sporting situations. Most blends are around 15%-30% spandex, and the rest are either nylon or polyester, while cotton leggings could be 100% cotton.
Like other boys’ clothing, consider the material percentages when washing and caring for your leggings, as certain materials respond differently to heat. Polyester and nylon both resist shrinking in the wash. High levels of spandex may require lower temperatures when washing to ensure your boy’s leggings continue to fit correctly.
