The Tree Fern Designs Story
Cuando era más joven me encantaba salir a caminar con mi papá, deambular por los bosques cerca de nuestra casa en busca de astas de yeso. La mayoría de las veces nunca encontramos nada, pero siempre vimos o encontramos algo especial, ya sea un nido de pájaro lira, una planta inusual o tal vez un ornitorrinco nadando en una presa.
Mi amor por estar al aire libre y un interés un poco poco atractivo por las rocas me llevaron a estudiar geología durante unos años (la excusa perfecta para salir a explorar en busca de piedras preciosas). Cuando esto no se convirtió en la carrera que esperaba, me di cuenta de que necesitaba cambiar de rumbo.
Siempre quise hacer algo ponible a partir de la belleza natural que me rodeaba, y cuando descubrí la resina, ¡me vendieron!
Cada pieza de joyería que hago está hecha a mano a partir de una mezcla de materiales. Soy un gran admirador de mantener las cosas reales y, por lo tanto, me esfuerzo por utilizar materiales naturales, sin teñir y sin teñir siempre que sea posible.
La mayoría de las flores, hojas, musgo y líquenes se recolectaron en una de mis muchas aventuras en los bosques y montañas del sur de Victoria o, a veces, se cultivaron en la pequeña granja de flores de mis padres en las estribaciones de las cordilleras Dandenong. Las piedras preciosas provienen de todo el mundo.
Utilizo resina ecológica como medio para la mayoría de las piezas. Esta resina se fabrica parcialmente a partir de subproductos de otras industrias renovables y, como tal, tiene una huella de carbono menor que las resinas convencionales. También resiste el amarillamiento con el tiempo y contiene componentes resistentes a los rayos UV que ayudan a prevenir la decoloración de los ingredientes botánicos incrustados.
Mis productos cambian constantemente a medida que encuentro nuevas formas de capturar el mundo que me rodea. Realmente es sorprendente lo que puedes ver cuando te paras a mirar (:
When I was younger I loved to go walking with my dad, wandering through the forests near our house searching for cast antlers. Most of the time we never found any, but we always saw or found something special, be it a lyrebird nest, an unusual plant or maybe a platypus swimming in a dam.
My love of being outdoors and a slightly uncool interest in rocks then led me to study geology for a few years (the perfect excuse to go traipsing off in search of gemstones). When this didn't turn into the career I expected, I realised I needed to change tack.
I’d always wanted to make something wearable from the natural beauty around me, and then when I discovered resin, I was sold!
Each piece of jewellery I make is hand-made from a mixture of materials. I'm a big fan of keeping things real, and therefore strive to use undyed, raw and natural materials where possible.
The flowers, leaves, moss and lichen have mostly been collected on one of my many adventures into the forests and mountains of southern Victoria, or sometimes grown on my parent’s small flower-farm in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. Gemstones come from across the globe.
I use eco-resin as a medium for most pieces. This resin is partially made from the by-products of other renewable industries, and as such has a lower carbon footprint than conventional resins. It also resists yellowing with time, and contains UV resistant components which help prevent fading of the embedded botanicals.
My products are constantly changing as I find new ways to capture the world around me. It really is amazing what you can see when you just stop to look (:
