There are several steps to creating a tile: First, the tile must be pressed in wet clay from my original mold, cleaned & detailed, and allowed to slowly air-dry until ALL the moisture is gone. Drying time cannot be rushed, and can take a week or longer. After drying, the tile must be bisque-fired which hardens the tile and aids in the glazing process. Lastly, the tile is glazed in the appropriate colors, and fired again. Sometimes an additional firing is needed if the tile contains special finishes such as metallic lustres.

That depends on your climate. If you live in a region of the country that experiences freeze/thaw cycles, then outdoor applications are not recommended unless the piece can be garaged or brought indoors in the winter. The danger is not the cold temperature - it's the expansion of freezing moisture that can cause damage. There is no danger in warmer climates

Yes. most of my art tiles can be installed in wet locations, and are often used as accent pieces in showers and backsplashes.

Yes! All of my art tiles have a depression on the back which allows them to be hung on a small nail, and can be the perfect accent in a small space - such as between windows, by a desk, or that little blank space that could use a pop of color!

Most of my tiles and mosaics can be glazed to suit your color preference, but exact color MATCHES are impossible.
Since my art tiles are pressed from my original molds, I generally cannot alter the DESIGN or SIZE without sculpting and casting a new mold. This can be done with a minimum order of 10 tiles of the new design.

Since each tile is hand-pressed, the size and thickness that I list is approximate, and may vary from tile to tile. Please contact me prior to purchase if you need your tiles to be consistent in size and thickness. This is common if you plan to use them as part of a permanent installation.

As with any fine ceramic tile, my tiles should be cleaned with mild soap and warm water. The use of harsh chemicals or abrasives is not recommended- this is particularly true of tiles that have any metallic lustre details.

Yes, I'm always happy to work with my customers! Deposits/layaways are available on orders over $400. As a general rule, my deposit terms are 50% down with the remaining balance (plus any shipping costs) due at shipping. It is the purchaser's responsibility to contact me with any difficulties or delays they may be experiencing, as any deposit or layaway amount will be forfeited after 90 days of inactivity unless special arrangements are made.

Tiles are made of ceramic, and are quite heavy and expensive to ship. I charge exactly what it costs to ship my work, and DO NOT make a profit on it. As a matter of fact, ETSY ACTUALLY TAKES 5% OF MY SHIPPING CHARGE, which comes from my pocket - not to mention the cost of shipping supplies such as bubble wrap, boxes, packing tape, printer paper & ink, and tissue paper - all of which is another expense that I don't pass on to the customer.

I'm a one-man artist/business owner - not a Big Box store selling mass produced items from China.

That said, I do offer free shipping on a select number of items.

Since all of my tiles are handmade, my listing photos are a representation of the tile you'll receive, and not the actual tile, unless stated.
Each tile will be glazed using the same glazes which I used in the listing photos, but each tile will be unique, and may show variations in color and texture which are inherent to the process of glaze application and kiln-firing. These inherent differences should be expected, and are part of the beauty of handmade tiles.
Customers are also reminded that colors can appear differently in person from what you may see on your screen.
