About ASilverDragonfly

Welcome!

My name is Dani and I live in a very small, out of the way town in the countryside of Northern Ontario. I'm a self taught jewelry artisan who currently mostly dabbles in chainmaille. I design and create everything you see in my shop in my one bedroom apartment that I share with 2 cats.

I began making jewelry in 2011 after I caught myself saying, "I wish I could do that," and decided to instead try my hand at jewelry making. I never intended to turn my new found hobby into a business because I grew up believing that it was nearly impossible to have a career as an artist. However, as I got better at my craft people around me started to take notice and I started to dream.

I enjoy hunting down the best materials that I can find for my jewelry. If I can't find what I need for a project from a trustworthy and reputable supplier I'll put the project aside until I can. I use aluminum in my work a lot, because I truly believe that it is an amazing material. Aluminum is a very light weight, clean and shiny metal that will not tarnish and does not contain nickel making it an ideal choice for those with metal sensitivities.

I was that little girl sitting at a table at the end of her driveway selling painted rocks to her neighbours. I have always loved the process of creating something beautiful and just cannot get enough of seeing the joy that my work brings to others.

Frequently asked questions
Choosing the Right Bracelet Size

- Measure your wrist with a measuring tape. If you do not have access to a measuring tape a string could be used and then measured against a ruler. This is your wrist measurement.
- Add 0.25" to 0.50" to your wrist measurement depending on how loose you would like the bracelet to be on your wrist. This is the size you should order.
- Example: My wrist measurement is 5.75". If I would like my bracelet to be close to my wrist I would select the 6.00" size option. If I would like it to be quite loose I would select the 6.25" size option.

Custom and personalized orders

I take custom orders on a case by case basis. If you find a bracelet in my shop that you like but would prefer it in a different colour or pride flag then please do send me a message. I love doing these type of custom orders.

Care instructions

Avoid homemade jewelry cleaners that use witch hazel, vinegar, baking soda, old (used) toothbrushes as these actually have the potential to damage your jewelry.

Instead mix a few drops of Dawn dish soap with warm but not hot water. Let the piece sit in the solution for a few minutes and then gently scrub with a new, soft toothbrush. Rinse the piece in lukewarm water.

This cleaning method is recommended for any type of jewelry from aluminum to gold. For a more thorough cleaning visit a local jeweler.

Can I wear your jewelry in the shower?

Warm soapy water is my recommended method for cleaning jewelry. A shower shouldn't harm your jewelry as long as you aren't using any harsh soaps.

Why does it cost so much to ship to Canada?!

Shipping in Canada is extremely ridiculous!

Etsy only allows me to input one shipping cost to cover everyone in Canada, but depending on where a customer lives the cost can vary between $12-18 CAD. Until Etsy gives Canadian sellers access to better shipping tools I have my shipping costs set to the highest amount they could potentially be and then refund any shipping overages. So, for example, if shipping only ends up costing $15 I would refund the extra $3.

Packages shipped within Canada always come with tracking and insurance even using the cheapest shipping service available to me which is the main reason why it is so much more expensive than international shipping.

What's so great about aluminum?

Aluminum is one of my favourite materials to use because it is very light weight, shiny and clean making it the ideal material for people who like their jewelry to be low maintenance and non-obstructive. Large decorative earrings that would normally be uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time feel like they are barely even there when they are composed mostly out of aluminum. The best part about aluminum, in my opinion, is that it will never tarnish and it does not contain nickel.
