Mosaics to Fused Glass -- I'm a glass weirdo
I originally started out making mosaic crosses and stained glass stepping stones around 2010. It all started a love for those items and buying them from other artists to --- maybe I can make that myself.
While I still adore every stepping stone I've ever made, dealing with pouring concrete is a messy business and doesn't lend to doing it all year in Wisconsin (if you don't want concrete dust in your house).
Fast forward to 2018, I took a few classes at a nearly local glass store and fell IN LOVE with fused glass. The surprise of your end result made each project so exciting. With experience comes less surprises and more predictability even in warm glass (glass fusing & blown glass). The excitement is still there, but the love for fusing glass has grown deeper, like in a good relationship. What I have learned thru classes, other artists and experimentation, is that fusing glass is a blend of science and art. When you start to understand the science (different glass response to levels of heat and time), you gain a respect toward the glass and to the artists who are doing more sophisticated, technical glass projects than you are. And they inspire me to keep learning and growing in this medium.
Every piece I do, especially the glass flowers are very personal to me. Many times, they are hard for me to let go of. BUT I know that the lovely bright colors reflected in the glass will bring joy to your home & garden or as gifts to those dear to you.
