I fell in love with carnival glass before I knew what it was called. In my grandmother’s cabinet sat a purple bowl embossed with roses. When the light touched it, it came alive — violet turning to fire, petals catching color like they were holding secrets. I would stand there longer than anyone realized, just watching it shimmer.
I didn’t know the maker.
I didn’t know the pattern.
I only knew it was beautiful.
That bowl is still in my cabinet today.
As I grew, so did my understanding — uranium glass that glows from within, Elegant and Depression-era pieces shaped by another time, art glass that bends light like memory. I learned the names, the histories, the differences. However, I still choose glass with my heart.
